Sustainable redevelopment at Brickfields, Hoxton

Built specifically for heavy engineering works in the 1970s, Cremer Street Studios in Hoxton had low floor to ceiling heights, poor quality brick and concrete which meant that it didn’t meet the requirements of modern businesses today. We decided to demolish and create a brand-new centre, renamed Brickfields, designed to BREEAM Excellent standard, whilst retaining 65% of the existing foundations and saving embodied carbon. Collaboration across all teams was essential to build this adaptable, durable and ‘circular’ asset.

Major refurbishment

Our Edinburgh House refurbishment has improved its energy efficiency significantly.

InspiresMe programme

We support disadvantaged young people in London via CV and career workshops, and interview practice. We host events for our customers and suppliers to raise awareness and introduce potential candidates.

Silver SKA rating

We achieved our first ever Silver SKA rating at our refurbishment of Gray’s Inn Road. 100% of the stripped-out materials recycled, and we installed energy-efficient air conditioning and lighting.

Considerate Constructors

Cocoa Studios is a 5,750m2 building on the wider Biscuit Factory estate, rated BREEAM Excellent Design Stage, with a Considerate Constructors Score (CCS) of 40/50 and an A grade EPC rating.

Lifecycle carbon analysis

Workspace Group refurbished Chester House, cutting the whole lifecycle carbon emissions of the building by almost 25%, compared to a new regional office building.

Solar panels

Our Grand Union development achieving a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification thanks to its Combined Heat and Power (CHP) installation and its solar panels.

Recycling effectiveness

Alongside improvements to facilities, recycling roadshows have proven to be a great way of getting people’s attention.

Barley Mow Centre

Barley Mow has seen several energy efficiency improvement over the years, starting with the installation of Optergy in March 2016, which led to a 20% decrease in energy consumption in the following year compared to 2014/15.

Paws in Work

Catering for our customer’s wellbeing needs is one of our top priorities. We are committed to bringing best-in-class wellbeing events to our centres. From puppy therapy to yoga sessions and mental health awareness workshops our events have received tremendously positive feedback including requests for many more.
